Describe your collection
Books and documentaries are collected across all subject areas with a preference toward those aimed at the general public (not academic or text books). Novels are provided for all age groups and large print and talking book formats are offered for those with visual impairment. Music CDs, DVDs, VHS and CD-ROMs are available for loan. Reference print books are available for use in the library and online database access is provided via the Library website 24/7.
What technologies do you use?
Our technology includes Spydus catalogue, Microsoft Office, Objectify website content management and Blogger for Blogalogue library blog.
What’s unique about your collection?
We have a large and diverse collection of AV materials – music CDs, films and documentaries on DVD and VHS and talking books on CD and MP3. Picture stories and other books aimed at the 0-5 year age group are another particular focus.
Who are your clients/patrons?
Patrons come from all age groups across the municipality and neighbouring regions. Our largest membership age groups are 55+ and young families.
Do you have archival material?
Local history materials are held for access within the library and are not for loan. There is some digitisation of local newspapers and photographs that are unique to the collection.
How do your clients/customers use your library and what services do you provide?
Members are able to borrow and use Library PCs at their discretion. Homebound members are serviced by volunteers. Librarians provide assistance with research and user education. Promotion of the Library and its services is undertaken by visits to schools, kindergartens and play groups. Pre-school and tiny tot (0-2 years) story time sessions are held at both Frankston and Carrum Downs Library. Events and activities for school aged children are run throughout school holidays. Other events and programs held at the libraries include writers’ talks and workshops, Family Fun Days, Live Music, senior computer classes and Dive into Reading, a reading and learning program for 0 – 5 year olds.
