The Australian Parliamentary Library’s services are established under the statutory office of the Parliamentary Librarian which has the following functions [1]:
(a) to provide high quality information, analysis and advice to Senators and Members of the House of Representatives in support of their parliamentary and representational roles; and
(b) to undertake such other responsibilities within the joint Department, consistent with the function set out in paragraph (a), as are conferred in writing on the Parliamentary Librarian by the Secretary of the joint Department with the approval of the Presiding Officers.

Describe your collection. We have around 120,000 titles in the catalogue and an extensive election collection including digital media (newspaper articles, radio and television news and current affairs program), news releases and political party material.
What’s unique about your collection?
Political material – most particularly the media collection
Who are your clients/patrons?
Members of Parliament and their staff, Parliamentary Departments, Governor General.
Do you have archival material?
Of media, particularly newspaper clippings.
How do your clients/customers use your library?
Primarily online or request via email of phone.
What services do you provide (distribution of information, research services, user education, programs and events, special activities?
(a) Research services. These services include responding to requests from individual Parliamentary clients for information and research, and the production of general distribution briefs and publications.
(b) Information access services. Information services are provided to the Library’s clients by acquiring and providing access to information resources in the collection and Library catalogue, through the selection, processing and indexing of material for Library and media databases in ParlInfo, and by publishing print and electronic works.
