Describe your collection

Being based in a hospital the library is a medical research facility for the hospital staff as well as students who are on rotation or based at the hospital for clinic/supervision. The library holds approximately 300 print journals and we have access to over 2000 online journals, we also have a reasonably large book collection which can be borrowed by library members.

What technologies do you use?

We use the Sirsi-Dynix Horizon system as our library catalogue, our catalogue is available via our website. We also use rss feeds for relevant health and science news and our weekly newsletter is distributed via email, in print and on our website, it can be viewed online, in PDF format or downloaded to a PDA.

What’s unique about your collection?

It is a medical collection which is predominantly paediatric focused.

Who are your clients/patrons?

Clinical medical staff (doctors, nurses), researchers based at the hospital or working at Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) which is attached to the hospital, medical and nursing students as well as the general public who can come in and use our resources but cannot borrow.

Do you have archival material?

No, the hospital has a seperate archives department where archivial material is held.

How do your clients/customers use your library and what services do you provide?

Free membership for hospital staff (must hold a valid hospital ID badge), the library is accessible in person during opening hours as well as after hours by signing out a key (items cannot be borrowed/removed after hours). Services provided by the library include, literature searches, help with research, borrowing of items, training programs (searching medical databases, EndNote, how to use the library website/systems), inter-library loans and any other assistance as required.
