Shall I start with the customer service?  Working in a library is no longer about sitting in a silent room surrounded by stacks stamping books. The library in which I work is a bustling (and sometimes very noisy!) place and every day I get to interact with many different and interesting people." Read on...

 

1. You work in a dynamic industry thats constantly evolving.

 

2. There's lots of DVDs, CDs, games and masses of online information that you can't find on the web and even lots of books!

 

3. Librarians provide opportunities for people to create stuff. (knowledge transfer etc)

 

4. Librarians constantly enjoy the challenge of new technology and making it work for their customers.

 

5. It's all about people, working with people and supporting customers in finding what they want.

 

6. The opportunities are there and if you're good at your job there are lots of opportunities to advance your career.

 

7. A library qualification gives you the opportunity to work in a wide range of organisations ie public libraries, university libraries, school libraries.

 

8. If you have a passion for something in particular you can work in a special library in the area of law, media, medicine, environment, planning, finance or engineering.  The list goes on... or you can work for a private corporation.

 

9. Librarians are sexy, knowledgable, interesting and mysterious people.

 

10. Your library qualification is a passport to working around the world.
