What’s great about your job?

I really enjoy the great diversity that comes out of working as a Librarian. I am always meeting new people and love being able to interact with them and being able to assist them with their information needs.

 

What’s the most fun experience you’ve had at work?

Sydenham Library’s opening day. I really enjoyed the festivities on the day and how the general public embraced the new library.

 

Describe a typical day at work.

A typical day at work would normally be broken up between working out on the Help Desk and working in the workroom. When out on desk I am helping patrons with their information needs whether it is for school projects or the location of some of the latest fiction novels. When I am working in the workroom I have a number of tasks assigned to me including:

  • Liaising with community groups and schools
  • Working on First Aid issues (As I am First Aid officer)
  • Preparing activities for events held in library including Preschool and Toddler story times
  • Repairs of items
  • General duties as required 

 

What do you find rewarding and challenging about you job?

The main thing that I find rewarding about working in the library is the fact that I have been able to help people in assisting them with their information needs whatever they are, I do this by applying my knowledge that I have gained over the years of working in public libraries and help them apply it to the many resources that we have here at Sydenham.

 

What are the personal skills & attributes that you need to do this job?

Skills and attributes needs to being a librarian would be:

  • Great customer Service Skills
  • A willingness to helping people
  • A dedication to your partons
  • Being a great communicator and listener
  • Analytical skills &
  • Time management
