Library Assistant

Library assistants assist and support qualified library technicians and librarians.

A typical day for a library assistant may involve:

• issue library cards to library patrons;
• work at the circulation desk, lending and receiving library-owned material;
• inspect returned material for damage;
• repair damaged books, magazines, etc.;
• sort and shelve material;

Library assistants receive most of their training on the job. No formal education is required, although familiarity with computers is expected.
